A Clarification for Macintosh Users
Posted by: BlackKnight @ 10:28 PM - Advertisement,Education,Humor,Irksome,Tech,Video

Macintosh's are PCs now -- they simply run a different operating system.  I don't call a machine that runs the Linux operating system a "Linux" to differentiate it from a "PC" and I don't call a Windows system a "Windows" to differentiate it from a "PC" (what would a "PC" be then?).  In theory, I can format my computer and put on OS X 10+ if I wanted (would my "PC" be a Mac then?).  Yes, there used to be a difference in hardware back before Macs took up the Intel chipsets, but those days are gone now, which is why you can run Windows on a Mac (see "2006 onward: Intel era" for more info).

Obviously, advertising is mainly to blame for the continued confusion since both Microsoft and Apple continue to advertise under the yesteryear juxtaposition between a "Mac" and a "PC".  This distinction is no longer valid!

For a reminder of what the old Macintosh was about (and still, to some extent, the new "Macintosh"), here's an oldie, but goodie, which Starslayer found a long time ago.

New MechWarrior Game In Development
Posted by: Starslayer @ 12:17 PM - Gaming,Video

The MechWarrior series is definitely one that needs a new game badly.  The demo video definitely shows promise.  More information available at mektek.net.

Impressive.

On a completely unrelated note:

Q: Why is number six afraid?
A: Because seven eight nine

Ya, I know you've heard it before... but check out the date.

KeePass
Posted by: BlackKnight @ 2:42 PM - Tech

This was mentioned in the last video.  It's an exhaustive tool for keeping track of your passwords (if you need help with that kind of thing) and it's free.

The Palm Pre
Posted by: BlackKnight @ 1:41 PM - Article,Tech,Video

Looking for an "iPhone"-alike, but you don't want to buy Apple or deal with AT&T?  Check out The Palm Pre.  It looks really slick and some say its better than even the iPhone 3GS.  Note, on the video, you have to skip ahead to about 11 minutes to get the review.

Hans Zimmer
Posted by: BlackKnight @ 1:22 PM - Article,Celebrity,Movie,Music

One of my favorite Hollywood musical composers, Zimmer recently impressed me yet again (only since all of Pirates of the Caribbean) with his work on The Dark Knight.  If any of you are interested in learning more about him, read his biography on imdb.  One thing that surprised me is that he used to be a member of The Buggles, the band with the hit song "Video Killed the Radio Star", which was the first music video played on MTV [on a side note, they need two more songs to cover the past decade, "Rap Killed the Music Video" followed by "Reality TV killed the MTV"].

Environmental Crazies
Posted by: BlackKnight @ 9:26 AM - Bizarre,Environment,Humor,Irksome,Religion,Video

I'm not even sure diaper was this extreme (then again...), but this just makes me laugh.  This is an extremist environmental group known as EarthFirst.  It might as well be a pagan tree cult or something -- I doubt it'd be much different.  I love this quote:  "Bring me to this rock that has the most incredible life..."  Really?  Does it really have incredible life?  Wow... that's deep maaaan...er I mean woman... whatever.

Most Spiders on Body For 30 Seconds or More
Posted by: BlackKnight @ 9:13 AM - Bizarre,Video

I honestly don't know how they come up with this stuff, but it's creep-crawly-interesting nonetheless.  Supposedly, some guy broke this kids record not long after, but still...

The Anti-Free Hug/Hippie Guy
Posted by: BlackKnight @ 8:50 AM - Humor,Video

This is hilarious.  I'm not sure how many of you ever heard of the Free Hug campaign that was started with a sort of hippie extremist group (it was on Oprah), but this guy decided to play a prank and it's brilliant.  Make sure to watch to the end.

Michael Meccas? Jackidulousness
Posted by: BlackKnight @ 8:20 AM - Celebrity,Irksome,News

The memorial is today and it might be larger than the 1984 Olympics as far as the number of people attending -- how fucking sad.  Just get it over with already.

On another note, if anyone had a bet going on which plastic surgery phenom would live longer, Cher won.

The New Cowboys Stadium
Posted by: BlackKnight @ 2:40 PM - Awesome!,Engineering,Sports,Tech,Video

I can't wait to go inside this beast that's been growing in my back yard, heh.  I just wanted to show some new footage that has come out showing what's inside.  I'd rather not post the JonasFagBrothers, so I'll suffice with tour footage and some footage focusing on the stadium TV:

The Wal-Mart You Don't Know
Posted by: BlackKnight @ 9:28 PM - Article,Economics,Ethics,Irksome,Music

This is a dated article, but it is still relevant (if not more so now).  It expounds on several of the many reasons that I avoid Wally World as much as I can.

The other main reason I avoid Wally World is their censorship of merchandise (e.g. Green Day stopped selling their music through Wally World because Wal-Mart won't sell it unless they're allowed to censor it before putting it on their shelves -- go Green Day!).
